Two New Judges Take Oath In Patna High Court, Working Strength Rises To 27

Two new judges took oath as Patna High Court judges on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Chief Justice Sanjoy Karol administered the oath to the newly appointed Judges namely: Justice Rajiv Roy and Justice Harish Kumar
With the new appointments, the working strength of the High Court has now increased to 27.
It may be noted that Justice Rajiv Rai, was a practicing advocate in constitutional, administrative, and criminal matters. Justice Harish Kumar dealt with education and constitutional matters. Both the judges represented the State Government in the High Court.
The Central Government had notified the appointment of Advocates Rajiv Roy and Harish Kumar as Judges of the Patna High Court on March 24, 2022.
The official notification issued today by the Ministry of Law and Justice reads thus:
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (l) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Rajiv Roy, and (ii) Harish Kumar, to be Judges of the Patna High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."
Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the elevation of Justice Kumar in its meeting held on 8th February 2022. Justice Roy's name was recommended in a meeting held on 1st February, 2022.
The Patna High Court has a working strength of 25 judges as against the sanctioned strength of 53 posts. With the new appointments, the working strength will increase to 27.
