A Kanpur-based advocate, Gautam Dutt (30) was killed in a firing that took place during the Kanpur Bar Association Elections election yesterday (December 17).

As reported by Hindi Daily, Amar Ujala, Gautam Dutt was shot dead over election rivalry after polling was adjourned in the Bar Association elections on Friday amid uproar and ruckus.

In this matter, an FIR has been lodged by the police on a complaint made by the deceased advocate's aunt Sangeeta Dwivedi. One named and three unknown persons have been booked under Section 302 IPC and also under SC/ST Act.

As per the FIR, at around five o'clock in the evening, advocate Gautam Dutt was discussing the election matter with some other advocates in front of his chamber, when one Tarun Gupta, along with his colleagues reached there and fired at him.

On the other hand, as per the report of Dainik Jagran, due to the cancellation of the elections, the situation in the Court premises worsened and rival factions of two contesting candidates came face to face and firing took place, and the bullet hit the deceased Advocate.

Police have said that the lawyer suffered serious gunshot wounds and he was immediately rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital, where he died during treatment.
