Advocates Viju Abraham and C.P. Mohammed Nias were sworn in as Additional Judges in the Kerala High Court on Friday.

Chief Justice S Manikumar administered the oath for both the newly appointed Judges.

The President of India had earlier notified the appointment of the said Advocates as Additional Judges of High Court for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge.

The ceremonial welcome speech was delivered by Advocate General Gopalakrishna Kurup. In his speech, he commented on the two years' delay in this elevation due to procedural aspects and remarked, 'better late than never'.

President of the Kerala High Court Advocates Association, Advocate Thomas Abraham offered the felicitation in the ceremony.

This was followed by speeches delivered by the newly sworn-in Judges.

Justice Viju Abraham expressed his gratitude to all his family members, colleagues, teachers, members of the Bar, and other officers in his speech and endeavored to discharge his duties with honesty.

Justice C.P. Mohammed Nias in his speech stated that he was overwhelmed to be chosen for a purpose so divine as a Judge of the High Court, and will strive to be true to the oath taken.

The High Court Collegium's recommendation for the elevation of Viju Abraham and six other Advocates was first considered by the Supreme Court Collegium on 9 October 2018. However, this was deferred for consideration on a later date twice.

The High Court collegium had recommended the names of CP Mohammed Nias, Paul K.K, and CS Dias on April 12, 2018.
