The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to give an urgent hearing into the matter pertaining to the death of a NEET student in Tamil Nadu.

Advocate GS Mani, a practicing lawyer in the apex court who filed a petition for a judicial probe into the death of student Anitha, mentioned before the bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra for urgent hearing of the plea.

The bench, however, said there was no urgency in it and the matter would be heard in due course.

In the petition, the lawyer sought a direction for probe by a retired Madras High Court judge into the death of Anitha.

Further, the plea sought a direction to the Tamil Nadu government to maintain law and order situation in the state and restrain political parties from politicising the issue.

Political parties and students have been continuously conducting protests, strikes, dharnas and road blockades across the state against the Centre and state government for not bringing suitable legislation in exempting the state from NEET examination.
