SC releases fresh panel lists of Amicus Curiae [Read the List]

Supreme Court of India has released fresh Panel lists of Amicus Curiae for a period of two years, with effect from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2018. The fresh Panels comprise of 8 Senior Advocates in List X, 126 Advocates-on-Record in List Y and 171 Non-Advocates-on-Record in List Z.

The Circular directs allocation of cases to the Advocates listed in all three lists to be made in chronological order. The Registry is also directed to maintain the existing ratio of allocation of 2:1 between Advocate-on-record and Non-Advocates-on-Record.

The Circular further states that in case any Advocate-on-record or Non-Advocates-on-Record does not file the required number of paper-books within the time specified for that purpose, or does not respond to the requests made by the Registry within reasonable time, his/her name will be deleted from the Panel. The same result will follow in case they return the allocated case without giving any convincing reasons, or do not appear before the Court.
