Hearing a petition relating to condition of homeless persons in the country, the Bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and U ULalit today said that "You have to make sure that the funds are used. You have to have a system to ensure that schemes are implemented."

Meanwhile, the Centre submitted to the Court that "Around Rs 10,860 crore has not been used so far and it has to be spent by the states by March 31 this year." It also submitted "We do not release further funds and we also seek audit report for utilization of funds."

The Court reportedly also said that many states are yet to form the executive committees as mandated by National Urban Livelihoods Mission.

Earlier in the case, the Apex Court had asked Centre to convene a meeting of all Chief Secretaries in ten days. It has also ordered the Centre to ascertain the number of homeless persons in the country.
