  • National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU) has invited applications for various positions to the University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion& Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) and Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme.

    Pay Scale



    1. Professor:  Rs.37, 400 -67,000.
    2. Associate Professor cum Deputy Director:   Rs.37, 400-67,000.
    3. Assistant Professor cum Assistant Director:   Rs.15, 600-39,100.
    4. Academic Coordinator: 
      consolidated salary of Rs  40,000
    5. Research Associate : With a consolidated pay of Rs.12,000+ HRA per month
    6. Research Assistant:   Rs.9, 300 – 25,000.
    7. Professional Assistant:   Rs.9, 300 - 25,000.
    8. Data Entry Operator: Rs.5, 200 - 20,200.

    Essential Qualification and Experience

    PROFESSOR

    (i)          Excellent academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work and a Master's Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Economics, Education, History, Literature, Law, Psychology, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Statics and Women Studies or similar inter-disciplinary subject, or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.

    (ii)        A minimum of ten years teaching experience and /or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Associate Professor in a university, College or Accredited research institution excluding the period of Ph.D., research with evidence of published work.

    (iii)      A minimum of 10 publications as books and / or research /policy papers directly related to the issues of development and the marginalized communities in India.

    (iv)       A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in this regulation in Appendix -III (the document available at the following website:  are essential

    (v)         Demonstrated ability to write research proposals, raise funds, execute and co-ordinate research projects, multi-disciplinary research, and strengths in quantitative & qualitative research methodology

    (vi)         Contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses and curricula, and experience of having worked in a reputed university/ institute / socio-legal research organization / Advocacy Centre / organization and active engagement with policy making bodies / human rights / non-government organizations / social movements / national / international funding agencies related to the issues of socially under privileged communities are desirable.

    (vii)        Experience in carrying out extensive study and research related to the social, economic and political life of the marginalized communities of Karnataka

    (viii)        Proven expertise in publishing in both Kannada and English,

    (ix)          Experience of working in various positions in university.

    (x)     Demonstrated ability to create indices and models to measure developmental issues pertaining to marginalized communities

    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR cum DEPUTY DIRECTOR

    (i)      Excellent academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work and a Master's Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Economics, Education, History, Literature, Law, Psychology, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Statics and Women Studies or similar inter-disciplinary subject, or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.

    (ii)     A minimum of eight years teaching experience and /or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a university, College or Accredited research institution excluding the period of Ph.D., research with evidence of published work.

    (iii)   A minimum of 5 publications as books and / or research /policy papers directly related to the issues of development and the marginalized communities in India.

    (iv)     A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in this regulation in Appendix -III (the document available at the following website  are essential.

    ASSISTANT PROFESSOR cum ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

    (i)            Excellent academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work in the relevant subject.

    (ii)        Master's Degree from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Economics, Education, History, Law, Literature, Psychology, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Statistics and Women Studies or similar inter-disciplinary subject with strong expertise in Law

    (iii)    Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, candidates should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) for assistant professorship conducted by the UGC or similar test accredited by the UGC.

    Academic Coordinator 

    (i)      Post Graduate Degree in management or social sciences.

    (ii)    The post requires to coordinate different activities of Master of Public Policy programmes such as liasoning between different faculty members, preparation of time table, managing attendance records, advertisement and managing the admission processes, liasoning with students for internship and placement activities, developing web content and preparation of annual reports.

    (iii)   Strong language skills to communicate with organizations on email as well as on phone with strong interpersonal networking skills is expected

    (iv)  Candidates with management/administrative experience in reputed institutes/university /development organization / international organizations are preferred.

    Research Associate 

    (i)      Doctoral Degree or Post Graduate Degree in social sciences, three year experience of research in any of the Social Sciences including work experience in print / electronic media on issues related to the socially disadvantaged sections, ability to network with individuals and organizations, organize seminars, workshops, conferences and thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications,

    (ii)    Internet administration, strong reading, writing and typing skills in English / one's mother tongue and working knowledge of Hindi or another South Indian language are essential.

    (iii)   Specialization in quantitative & qualitative research methodology & experience of having worked in a reputed university/ institute/ socio-legal research centres/ Advocacy centre / organization, litigation law firm, engagement with policy making bodies and human rights non-government organizations/social movements / newspaper / journal are desirable.

    RESEARCH ASSISTANT

    (i)    Post Graduate Degree in social sciences, three year experience of research in any of the Social Sciences including work experience in print / electronic media on issues related to the socially disadvantaged sections, ability to network with individuals and organizations, organize seminars, workshops, conferences and thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications

    (ii)    Internet administration, strong reading, writing and typing skills in English / one's mother tongue and working knowledge of Hindi or another South Indian language are essential.

    (iii)   Specialization in quantitative & qualitative research methodology and experience of having worked in a reputed university / institute/ socio-legal research centres/ Advocacy centre / organization, litigation law firm, engagement with policy making bodies and human rights non-government organizations/social movements / newspaper / journal are desirable. The appointment is co-terminus with the time-bound projects.

    PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANT

    (i)      Post Graduate Degree in social sciences or management.

    (ii)  The post requires ability to network with individuals and organizations, organize seminars, workshops, conferences, providing administrative assistance to faculty and researchers, preparing press-notes for media, preparing annual reports, ability to independently handle the office correspondence, preparation of budget proposal, project accounts, utilization certificate etc., thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications, Internet administration (including website development), and administrative skills.

    (iii)   Three year work experience in a reputed university / institute / policy- oriented research institution / national / international Non-Governmental funding organization are desirable.

    DATA ENTRY OPERATOR

    (i)      Graduate Degree preferably in commerce. Not less than three year experience in Tally – Accounts.

    (ii)    Typing both in English and Kannada, ability to independently handle the office correspondence, preparation of budget proposal, project accounts, utilization certificate etc.

    (iii)   Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office applications, Internet administration, administrative skills, strong reading, writing and typing skills in one's mother tongue and working knowledge of Hindi or another South Indian language are essential.

    LIBRARY ATTENDANT

    (i)    Pre-University Degree. Good knowledge of MS office applications and strong reading, writing and typing skills in English / Kannada are essential. Work experience in research institutes / law firms / organizations is desirable.

    ATTENDANT

    (i)      Pre-University Degree or SSLC, reading, writing and typing skills in English / Kannada are essential.

    (ii)    Work experience in research institutes / law firms / organizations is desirable.

    Applications without the following enclosures or incomplete applications will be rejected:



    1. Supporting documents (degree, diploma, certificates, mark-sheets and testimonials) of qualifications and experience.
    2. Passing certificate of NET examination conducted by the UGC.
    3. Three sets of each (not more than three) articles /papers / books published / papers presented at seminars / conferences, in the last five years. Applicants to the post of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor may please note that this is an essential requirement, and hence three copies of each of the above must be forwarded in advance with the application
    4. Candidates for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor may be called to give a seminar in NLSIU in any topic that is relevant for the applicant’s research.
    5.
