    The Central Government on Tuesday informed the Court that the process for appointments against 15 vacancies in the National Company Law Tribunal is complete and letters of appointments have been sent. The Centre further stated that the selection process for the remaining 19 vacancies is under way.

    Taking note of this, a bench comprising Justices Krishna Murari and S Ravindra Bhat stressed that the filling up of vacancies must be done with importantce.

    "Without the intervention of this court, the Government does not take steps regarding appointments, until a direction is passed and monitoring is done by this court", Justice Krishan Murari orally said.

    The Union also apprised the top court of the fact that while advertising the 19 vacancies, the vacancies that will arise in the future were also taken into consideration. Regarding the vacancy in the NCLAT, the Court was told that there was one vacancy which arose in October 2022 and the process for filling that vacancy will soon begin.

    The court taking note of the progress made by the Union in the appointment of the members in NCLT and NCLAT, listed the matter for further hearing after 6 weeks.
