The Central Board Of Secondary Education has informed the Supreme Court that results of Class XII Board Examination 2021 for CBSE will be declared by 31st July 2021, and dispute regarding computation of results done in accordance to its assessment policy for Class XII students will be referred to a Committee constituted by CBSE.

The Board has also stated that it will provide online facility for registration for the examination, if after declaration of the results, the candidates are not satisfied with their result. Further for those who opt to take this examination, marks obtained by a candidate in this examination will be treated as final

CBSE has also stated that the examination will be conducted by the board only in the main subjects as and when conditions are conducive for holding the examinations.

These amendments have been made by CBSE to the original policy formulated by it in pursuance of Supreme Court's order on Thursday asking the Boards to incorporate the provision for dispute resolution and to provide a timeline for declaration of results and for optional exams to be conducted.

The submissions have been made by CBSE through an affidavit filed in the plea by Adv Mamta Sharma seeking cancellation of Class XII CBSE and ICSE exams.

With regards to the date before which the optional examination for the candidates not satisfied with their assessment is concerned, CBSE has stated that examinations for such candidates will be conducted any time between 15th August to 15th September 2021 subject to conducive situation

The Boarf has also informed the top Court that for Private/ Patrachar/2nd chance compartment candidates, the examinations will be conducted in such a manner so that they will fall within the Assessment Policy for the Academic Year 2019-2020 as approved by the Supreme Court last year in the case of Amit Bathla & Ors v CBSE, and their results will be declared in accordance with the said Assessment Policy.

Further, the examinations results for Private/ Patrachar/2nd chance compartment candidates will also be conducted anytime between 15th August to 15th September 2021 subject to conducive situation.

CBSE has stated that its policy has been formulated to ensure standardisation of marks, as marks of Class XI and XII component will be awarded at school level and, therefore, they will strictly not be comparable across schools due to variations in the quality of question papers, the evaluation standard and processes, the mode of conduct of exams etc.

According to the Board, to ensure standardisation, each school will have to internally moderate the marks to account for the school level variations by using a reliable reference standard as provided in para 10 of the Policy.

"This is necessary in the interst of fairnes and to ensure that the marks allocated are comparable and there is no adverse impact or undue gain for any student because of the methodology/process of evaluation used by the individual school." the affidavit has said.

The Supreme Court will hear the petitions on CBSE, ICSE exams tomorrow.
