CJI BR Gavai Flags Off Supreme Court Bar Association's 'Justice For All' Walkathon Event

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Sunday hosted the inaugural “Justice for All” Run/Walkathon and Tree Plantation Drive, an event that brought together judges, lawyers, and citizens in a collective call for a more accessible and sustainable justice system.The 8 KM run/walk event began at the Supreme Court of India campus and concluded at India Gate. It was inaugurated and flagged off by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, in the presence of judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justices and judges of various High Courts, and members of the Bar.CJI BR Gavai, Justice Surya Kant, SCBA President Vikas SinghThrough the “Justice for All” campaign, the SCBA sought to draw attention to the growing pendency of cases across the country and the need to restore public confidence in the justice delivery system.The statement from the association noted that while crores of cases remain pending, the goal of the movement is not merely faster disposal, but “justice that is timely, meaningful, and fair to all parties.” It emphasized that delays not only burden the system but also erode public faith, as verdicts delivered after decades often fail to bring closure.Ex-CJI UU Lalit at the event. The SCBA also used the platform to highlight the growing role of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms, particularly mediation and arbitration, as essential tools for delivering real justice. These methods, it said, offer “faster, more amicable, and sustainable solutions” while promoting a national culture of compromise, dialogue, and mutual respect.'Even If All Cases Are Decided, It Will Not Be Justice For All': SCBA President Vikas Singh Speaking on the occasion, SCBA President and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh said that the true meaning of justice extends beyond the courtroom verdict.“Even if all cases are decided, it will not be justice for all. The winning side will feel it got justice, but the losing side will not. True justice can only be achieved through mediation, where both parties are heard, and resolutions are built on consensus rather than conflict,” he said.He added that the time had come to inculcate a “spirit of give and take” in litigation, with judges playing a pivotal role in encouraging this cultural shift.“By promoting mediation, the judiciary can transform the justice delivery system into one that heals rather than divides,” Singh said, calling for a broader rethinking of how justice is perceived and practiced in India.Following the Run and Walkathon, a Tree Plantation Drive was held at the Supreme Court lawns and nearby areas. The event saw participation from over 2,000 participants.
