Work Load Of Judges Heavy; Criticism Against Court Vacations Unjustified : Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal

The criticism against the Court vacations is unjustified, said former Union Law Minister, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, speaking in an interview to Mirror Now channel. He opined that the judges are hardworking and that the Government should not be commenting about how the Courts should function.Sibal was speaking about the recent attacks made on judiciary by ministers. He said–"Courts know what their job is. The judges, you cannot imagine the kind of work that our judges do. Look at what is happening in the Supreme Court. The other day there were 110 matters in the Supreme Court. And there are, I am sure, in any ministers office, there are 110 files which are not attended to. These judges read every word of their files, come prepared the next day. They have to hear arguments the next day. It is an unbelievable job. And then you say that they do not need vacation? You are constantly on vacation. What work do you guys do? Does the court tell you? That half the time you are on vacation. Institutions cannot be run like this. Democracy cannot be run like this."He also stated that pendency in courts was high because there were not enough judges in terms of the population of the country. He added–"There is not enough infrastructure. If you increase the number of judges, you have to increase other facilities, the infrastructure, the library. You have to have man those courts. You will have to have examinations to fill those vacancies in the lower judiciary. We just don't have that so why blame the court?"'We Continue To Work Even During Court Holidays' : CJI Refutes 'False Narrative' About Easy Life Of JudgesExpressing his disapproval towards the recent attacks on the judiciary by the government, Sibal added–"Let the court manage its affairs and let the government manage the people of this country and make sure that India moves moves forward.
