Criminal Contempt Action Sought Against Aniruddhacharya & Ajeet Bharti For Provocative Comments Against CJI BR Gavai

Founder of Mission Ambedkar, Suraj Kumar Bauddh, has written a letter to the Attorney General of India seeking permission to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against two individuals allegedly involved in inciting the attempted attack against Chief Justice of India BR Gavai. In the letter addressed to AG R Venkataramani, Baudhh highlighted that prior to the attack on October 6, a religious orator named Aniruddhacharya aka Aniruddh Ram Tiwari made a video threatening the CJI over his remarks in the Vishnu Idol Case. "On September 21, 2025, a video featuring religious orator Aniruddhacharya alias Aniruddh Ram Tiwari went viral on social media, in which he issued a direct threat against the Chief Justice of India, stating, "If you want to get your chest ripped open, then let me know." This statement, made in response to remarks attributed to the Chief Justice concerning the deity Vishnu, was widely interpreted as an incitement to violence against the highest judicial authority of the country."Notably, the CJI on September 18 had already clarified that his comments were made in the context of the fact that the temple was under the jurisdiction of the ASI and the Court could not grant the prayer sought by the petitioner. The letter also states that on the same day of the attempted attack on the CJI, another YouTuber Ajeet Bharati made objectionable statements on his X (formerly Twitter) Account. Baudhh has expressed that such statements are intended to incite hate against the Supreme Court Judges. He stressed that such behaviour was 'unprecedented' in the judicial history and creates an embargo in the fearless discharge of judicial responsibilities. "These statements and actions are aimed at provoking violence against the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India and other judges. The tone and tenor of such public provocation are extremely dangerous, and these posts have gone viral, creating heated debates and escalating tensions. Such behavior is unprecedented in the history of the Supreme Court of India. If such individuals are not brought to justice, the independence of the judiciary and the foundation of our democracy could be placed in peril. No court or judge should be prevented from discharging their duties without fear or favor.""In light of the above, it is request you to give consent in writing to initiate the proceedings for Criminal Contempt against Aniruddhacharya alias Aniruddh Ram Tiwari and Ajeet Bharati, and necessary proceedings initiated against the guilty parties to uphold the dignity, independence, and safety of our judiciary." Bauddh has sought the initiation of criminal contempt proceedings under S. 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act 1971. Yesterday, a 71-year-old lawyer named Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw a shoe at the CJI during the Court proceedings. While being escorted out by the security personnel, Kishore shouted that insults to Sanatan Dharma would not be tolerated. He was later let off by the Delhi Police as the Supreme Court Registrar General declined to pursue further legal action.The bid to attack the CJI drew widespread condemnation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Ministers MK Stalin, Pinarayi Vijayan, Siddaramaiah, Revanth Reddy, Mamata Banerjee and many other political leaders condemned the act and expressed solidarity with the CJI. The Supreme Court Bar Association, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, and major bar associations of many High Courts condemned the act. The Bar Council of India suspended the lawyer.
