The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered the unblocking of the X (formerly Twitter) account of Cockroach Janata Party.

A bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed the plea of CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, noting that the primary concern of the Centre is no longer of relevance since the NEET exam is over.

Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta said that the primary concern of the Union Govt, which led to blocking of the party's account, was that their posts can lead to chaos among students and parents during the NEET exam.

The Court noted that since the exam has been concluded, the primary concern is resolved. It thus allowed the plea. The SG said the Centre has no objection to the unblocking of the account. Accordingly, the Court proceeded to revoke the Centre's blocking order.

Earlier, the Court had directed the Review Committee of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to examine Dipke's case, granting him liberty to appear virtually.

'Cockroach Janata Party' is a satirical social media movement which emerged in response to an oral comment made by the CJI during a hearing, where he equated unemployed youth attacking systems under the garb of online activism as 'cockroaches'.

The CJI later clarified that he was referring to persons with fake degrees. The social media handles of 'Cockroach Janata Party', which amassed millions of followers within a matter of days, were later suspended.
