The Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee constituted by Chief Justice of India has submitted its interim report outlining a roadmap for the modernisation of courts across the country.

The committee, constituted on May 12, 2026, was tasked with examining the infrastructure requirements of the justice delivery system and recommending measures to improve court facilities and working conditions.

Headed by Justice Aravind Kumar of the Supreme Court, the committee includes Justice Debangsu Basak of the Calcutta High Court and Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as well as Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan of the Bombay High Court. The committee also comprises CPWD Director General Satinder Pal Singh and Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar, who serves as Member Secretary.

According to the Supreme Court statement issued on Monday, the committee has prepared a blueprint for modernising courts nationwide, with a focus on securing adequate government funding to address infrastructure deficiencies.

The committee's mandate included identifying infrastructure constraints faced by the justice delivery system and recommending facilities required by judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors.

It was also tasked with recommending measures for the computerisation of courts as part of the e-Courts initiative and proposing citizen-centric services aimed at making justice delivery more inclusive. Bridging the digital divide was another area identified under its mandate.

The committee examined measures for establishing modern court complexes and improving working conditions for judicial officers and administrative staff, with the broader objective of enhancing efficiency in the delivery of justice.

The interim report was submitted to the Chief Justice of India on August 31, in accordance with the committee's stipulated deadline.

The Supreme Court's statement, however, does not disclose details of the specific infrastructure projects, funding requirements or recommendations contained in the interim roadmap.
