Judiciary Needs Executive's Cooperation In Terms Of Funds To Ensure Justice Reaches All: CJI BR Gavai

Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai on Sunday underlined the importance of coordination between the judiciary and the executive for strengthening judicial infrastructure and expanding access to justice.Speaking at the inauguration of the new Court Building at Mandangad in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, Justice Gavai observed that while the doctrine of separation of powers requires both organs to function independently, the judiciary depends on the executive for financial resources to serve the people effectively.“Even though the doctrine of separation of powers expects the executive and judiciary to function independently, the judiciary must receive cooperation from the executive in terms of funds to ensure justice reaches one and all,” the Chief Justice said.Justice Gavai said that in his 22 years on the Bench, he has consistently worked towards decentralising justice and ensuring that judicial infrastructure projects are completed on time.“What gives me immense satisfaction is the Kolhapur Circuit Bench of the Bombay High Court and this Mandangad Court Building, which has been completed in two years,” he added.The Chief Justice expressed gratitude to the Maharashtra Government for its support in expediting the project and noted that several other court buildings in Nashik, Nagpur, Kolhapur and Daryapur had also been recently completed. He described the new Mandangad facility as the realisation of a long-cherished goal of improving access to justice in the Konkan region.The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Chandrashekar, Guardian Minister for Ratnagiri Uday Samant, Justices Makarand Karnik and Madhav Jamdar, and other dignitaries.Country has stayed united due to Dr.Ambedkar's ConstitutionJustice Gavai also unveiled a statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and murals depicting key moments from his life. Referring to the historical significance of Mandangad, the Chief Justice said it was fitting that a modern court building had come up in the region that houses Ambadve village, the ancestral home of Dr. Ambedkar.“The country has remained united and on the path of development in war and peace. We have seen internal Emergency as well, but we have remained strong and united. It is because of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution,” Justice Gavai said.The new court building, equipped with modern courtrooms and digital infrastructure, is expected to significantly improve judicial accessibility in the Konkan region. Local residents, lawyers and officials attended the event in large numbers and welcomed the development as a major step towards bringing justice closer to the people.
