    With the retirement of Justice R Banumathi on July 19, Justice UU Lalit will become part of the Supreme Court collegium with effect from July 20, as the fifth senior judge.

    Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra and R F Nariman are the other members of the Collegium .

    The appointment of judges at the Supreme Court and High Courts, and the transfer of HC judges are done at the recommendations of the SC Collegium.

    Justice Arun Mishra, the third senior judge in the Collegium, is due to retire on September 5, 2020.

    Justice Lalit was directly elevated from the bar on August 13, 2014.

    Enrolled as an Advocate in June, 1983, he practised in the High Court of Bombay till December, 1985. In January 1986, he shifted his practice to Delhi. He was designated as Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in April, 2004.   The Supreme Court had appointed him as the Special Public Prosecutor for CBI to conduct trial in all 2G matters.
