The Supreme Court dismissed a plea who sought for deployment of military forces in each state for proper implementation of the national lockdown in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PIL had also sought for directions in laying down guidelines, devising strategy to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens by the Respondents. It further sought for the Central Bureau of Investigation or National Investigation Agency to investigate into the matter related to assembly of people at various parts of the country.

Filed by Advocate-on-Record Omprakash Parihar and Advocate Dushyant Tiwar on behalf of Kamlakar R. Shenoy, the plea stated that the Central and State authorities had failed to secure the life of the people by allowing mass mobilization to take place despite the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases.

The Bench comprising of Justices Ashok Bhushan, SK Kaul and BR Gavai was not inclined to entertain the matter and, directed the Petitioner to withdraw the petition and let the government decide where military will be deployed.
