After a group of senior lawyers raised complaints regarding non-listing of urgent matters during the vacation, a vacation bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday said that directions will be issued to the registry to list the urgency applications before the Chief Justice of India.

"We will issue directions to the Registry to list urgency applications before the Chief Justice of India", a bench comprising Justices Vineet Saran and BR Gavai said.

The bench made this observations after Senior Advocates Dr.Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Sidharth Luthra, PS Patwalia and Gopal Jain mentioned before the bench that their matters were not getting listed.

The bench told the lawyers that mentioning of the matters must take place before the Chief Justice of India. The bench said that it can allow mentioning only in respect of cases considered by it.

"All mentioning matters and directions sought for listing will be placed before the Chief Justice. Only matters which have been passed by this Bench & require correction can be placed before this Bench", Justice Saran said.

Senior Advocate Dr.Singhvi said that though a judicial order was passed last Friday for listing of his matter today, it was not listed today. Dr.Singhvi said that it was with respect to a correction in an order passed by the very same bench, and the same ought to be urgently listed.

"I am in the same boat as Dr.Singhvi. A judicial order was given for listing and matter is not listed", Senior Advocate Gopal Jain joined Dr.Singhvi's grievance.

At this juncture, Senior Advocate PS Patwalia also raised a grievance regarding the non-listing of his case.

"My University is being wound up and students will not get degrees", he said.

Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra said that his case is not getting listed, despite the fact that it falls within the category of urgent cases mentioned in the vacation circular.
