Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra has sought urgent listing of the petition filed by her in the Supreme Court challenging her expulsion from the Lok Sabha.

Senior Advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned Moitra's petition before the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud seeking a listing either tomorrow or Friday. It may be noted that the Supreme Court is closing for winter vacations from December 15.

CJI DY Chandrachud asked Singhvi to send an email request and agreed to look into the listing.

"The matter may not have been registered. If an email was sent I would look at it right away. Please send it. I'll look right away," CJI said. Singhvi responded by stating that he would circulate an email right away.

Earlier in the day, Singhvi had mentioned the matter before Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, as the CJI was then hearing a Constitution Bench matter. However, Justice Kaul refused to entertain the request and asked Singhvi to approach the CJI. The matter was mentioned before the CJI after the CB hearing was over.

It was on December 8 that the Lok Sabha expelled the MP from West Bengal adopting a Report of the Ethics Committee over the 'cash for query' complaint. The Lok Sabha passed a resolution to expel Moitra, based on the Committee's finding that she was guilty of sharing her login credentials of the Lok Sabha MP portal with unauthorised persons, which resulted in compromising national security and that she accepted illegal gratification in the form of gifts and other facilities from a businessman for raising queries.
