Mumbai Police Files Fresh FIR Against Arnab Goswami, Wife And Son For Assaulting Woman Police Officer During Arrest [Read FIR]

The Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against Republic TV's Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly manhandling a woman police officer at the time of his arrest on Wednesday morning. The FIR has been registered under Sections 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The Police has also booked Goswami's wife and his son for obstructing the Police officers from performing their duty, under Section 353 of IPC. Two unknown persons, a man and a woman have also been booked in the matter. The Mumbai Police had arrested Goswami this morning, for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer. He was taken to the Raigad police station. The case was closed earlier due to lack of evidence but it has now been re-opened. As per the videos shared by visual media, the cops entered Goswami's residence and took him into custody, after a tussle. Goswami had claimed that the police assaulted him physically. However, as per the fresh FIR that has been registered by the Mumbai Police, a woman police official namely Sujata Tanvade claimed that Goswami had assaulted him during the morning arrest. So far as Goswami's wife is concerned, the Police has claimed that she tore the intimation regarding Goswami's arrest. 2018 Abetment Case It is alleged that Anvay Naik left a suicide note written in English stating that he and his mother decided to take the extreme step on account of payments due to them not being cleared by the owners of three companies – television journalist Arnab Goswami of Republic TV, Feroz Shaikh of IcastX/Skimedia and Niteish Sarda of Smartworks. Naik said in his suicide note that his company had executed interior works for Republic TV and an amount of Rs 83 lakh was due from Goswami and ARG Outlier Meida Pvt Ltd (parent company of Republic TV). The Raigad police had closed the case in April 2019 saying that they did not find evidence against the accused named in the suicide note, including Goswami. However, in May this year, Anvay's daughter approached the Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh seeking the case be reopened. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had tweeted in May, "Adnya Naik had complained to me that Alibaug Police had not investigated non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami's Republic which drove her entrepreneur father and grandma to suicide in May 2018.
