CJI : Solicitor, are there any steps being taken (to grant citizenship)?

SG : There is a 3-tier system. First it goes to one committee, thereafter goes to another higher committee, after that goes to Central Govt. Time limit I cannot give, depends on facts.

Sr Adv Siddharth Luthra : Union chose not to file counter for four weeks.

Jaising : Let them have as much time, but don't grant citizenship in meantime.

SG : We will have to file a detailed affidavit on merits to 237 petitions. 20 IAs already filed an many are in the pipeline. Realistically, we need 4 weeks.

CJI to SG : We will give you two weeks time to file reply and take up on April 2.

Nizam Pasha : Their counter affidavit states it is a preliminary affidavit to oppose stay. What they are asking for time is already filed.

Sibal : The rules were notified now, there was no question of stay earlier. Why have they waited for four years?
