Adding to the directions issued by the Supreme Court for effectuating succesful hearings during the Coronavirus-induced lockdown, Top Court has issued a circular to alleviate difficulties faced in terms of filings on A4 size paper.

The Circular which has been signed under the hand of Sanjeev S. Kalgaonkar, the Secretary General of the Supreme Court has directed that all cases filed before April 1, 2020 may be refiled using either A4 or legal size paper.

Further to this, the circular has directed that exemptions from A4 size sheets shall be granted to fresh/re-filings of fresh petitions up to June 15, 2020 "only in those cases where difficulties are being expressed to use A4 size paper". Thus, the circular states that,

"The Advocate-on-Record/ Party-in-person may file an application seeking exemption to use A4 size paper specifying the circumstances to seek such exemption. The said application shall be placed before the Additional Registrar Incharge, Filing Counter, who is empowered to decide the same"

The circular also makes it clear that no expemtion shall be granted in cases filed through e-filings where A4 paper's are mandatory.
