The State of Punjab on Monday told the Supreme Court that the police wants to investigate the conspiracy by alleged gangster Lawrence Bishnoi with an accused in foreign in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Senior Advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the State of Punjab, made this submission in a plea preferred by the father of Lawrence Bishnoi challenging the transit remand order issued by a Delhi Court for the production of his son in Mansa Court in Punjab in Siddhu Moosewala murder case.

The matter was listed before the bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and AS Oka.

Terming the matter to be "very serious", Senior Advocate AM Singhvi for the State of Punjab sought time to file a reply to the petition. He also submitted that Bishnoi is facing 57 FIRs and he was was escorted to Mansa with 100 policemen and by videography.

"We want to investigate the conspiracy where he is in touch with the shooter who is in foreign," Senior Counsel submitted .

The bench adjourned the hearing of the petition to next Monday.

It was argued in the petition that the order passed by Judicial Magistrate in Mansa on June 15, 2022 by which Bishnoi was remanded to police custody for 7 days was patently illegal and was in violation of the principles of arrest and detention. It was also submitted that his son was not supplied with the grounds of arrest, a memo of arrest was not drawn out, relatives of Bishnoi were not informed with regard to having him arrested.

"The son of the petitioner was also not allowed to be represented by an advocate of his choice and was casually remanded to police custody by way of an order dated June 15, 2022 passed by the Ld Magistrate Mansa which lacks application of judicial mind and is therefore liable to be set aside and quashed," the plea filed through AOR Nikhil Jain stated.

Moosewala, who had contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections as a Congress candidate from Mansa seat, was murdered on May 29. Bishnoi was then in Tihar jail in Delhi in connection with cases related to organized crime. Punjab police alleges that Bishnoi is the mastermind behind the murder of Moosewala and that the crime was plotted in Tihar jail.
