BCCI Requests Supreme Court To Urgently Hear Plea To Allow Amendment Of Constitution

The Board of Cricket Control for India ("BCCI") has sought urgent listing of its plea in the Supreme Court seeking permission to amend its Constitution.
The matter was mentioned by Senior Advocate PS Patwalia before the Chief Justice of India on Friday.
Urging the bench to list the matter, Patwalia said, "The application was filed 2 years ago and it came up in April. Directions were to list it after 2 weeks but then CoVID came. Amendments are in the pipeline after the judgment. These remain pending."
"We'll see if if can be listed next week," CJI NV Ramana said.
On April 16, 2021, the bench headed by Justice LN Rao (now retired) had adjourned BCCI's plea after the amicus curiae in the matter, Senior Advocate PS Narasimha (now appointed as Supreme Court Judge), had sought some time to compile the submissions of the counsels.
Based on the recommendations by retired Justice RM Lodha's committee, BCCI had drawn up its Constitution which mandated a three year cooling off after six years in the position for an office bearer- at the state level or the BCCI.
In the amendment, BCCI had sought for including the abolition of the cooling period of office bearers like the Secretary and the President which would enable the current President Saurav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah to continue in office despite them completing six years in their respective state associations.
