    The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed asa withdrawn the petition filed by BJP leader Jagjit Singh seeking CBI probe into the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, after his counsel said that he was not pressing the petition as the "Punjab police is taking steps".

    The matter was listed before the bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and AS Oka.
    When the matter was called for hearing, Advocate Namit Saxena appearing for the BJP leader submitted that since Punjab Police was already taking steps to probe into the Singer's death, the petitioner no longer wanted to press for the relief sought in the plea.
    "We wanted a CBI probe but Punjab Police is taking steps so we don't want a central agency probe any longer. We are not pressing it," the counsel submitted while seeking Court's permission to withdraw the plea.
    Acceding to the Counsel's request the bench although agreed to dismiss the petition as withdrawn.
    "Our request is that such matters should not be connected politically. We don't appreciate this. This court has to work openly for all the people. But it should not be given any political colour," the bench added.
    Singh had filed the petition contending that the State machinery in Punjab has failed and that a central agency was required to investigate as the case had inter-state ramifications.

    "A particular state agency does not have the jurisdiction to investigate the present case as the same involves international gangsters as well as local/inter- state criminal who have fled or are trying to flee to different parts of the country," plea had stated.
