The Supreme Court has dismissed a review petition filed by Umar Khalid, seeking to review the January 5 order, which denied him bail in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.

It may be recalled that a bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria had denied bail to Khalid and another co-accused, Sharjeel Imam, observing that the materials showed a prima facie case against them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

It stated that prosecution materials prima facie disclosed "a central and formative role" and "involvement in the level of planning, mobilisation and strategic direction extending beyond episodic and localised acts."

At the same time, the Court granted bail to some of the other accused in the case - Gulfisha Fatima, Meera Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd. Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmed.

The Court had also imposed an embargo on Khalid and Imam, that they can renew their bail applications only after the examination of protected witnesses or after one year from January 5.

The review petition was mentioned by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal(for Khalid) and requested that it be heard in an open Court.

In the April 16 order uploaded today, the Court rejected the prayer for an oral hearing and stated that there is no good ground to review its judgment.

"Prayer for oral hearing in the review petition is rejected. Delay condoned. Having gone through the review petition and also the documents enclosed, we do not find any good ground and reason to review the judgment dated 05.01.2026. Accordingly, the review petition is dismissed."
