The Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 8) granted interim protection of no coercive action for a month to a 72-year-old man whose anticipatory bail has not been taken up for hearing in the Patna High Court for the last six months.

Singh was accused of committing offences punishable under Sections 420, 406, 467, 468, 471 and 120B read with 34 IPC.

His application for anticipatory bail was dismissed by the Sessions Court on March 19, 2021, and had thereafter approached the High Court by filing an application for anticipatory bail on March 26, 2021.

Alleging that his anticipatory bail was not being listed for hearing, Singh had approached Top Court by way of a writ as he apprehended arrest by police even before his application being heard by the High Court.

Singh's counsel had submitted that his anticipatory bail application was going to take a very long time since it was listed at Sl No 3076.

Noting that Singh's application for anticipatory bail was pending in the Patna High Court, the bench however expressed its disinclination to entertain the writ petition under Article 32 to grant reliefs sought by Singh and disposed of the same.
