    The Supreme Court on Monday requested the Bombay High Court to expedite the hearing in the petition filed by Lt Col Prasad Purohit seeking the quashing of the sanction granted to prosecute him in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

    Purohit had approached the Supreme Court challenging his prosecution in the case. The bench comprising Justices Hemant Gupta and Vikram Nath, taking note of the fact that the petition filed by Purohit seeking to quash the sanction granted under Section 197(2) of the Code of Procedure is pending consideration before the High Court, disposed of his plea requesting the HC to expeditiously decide the same.

    The order passed by the Supreme Court stated :

    "The writ petition filed by the petitioner bearing Writ Petition (Crl.) No.871/2021 is pending consideration before the High Court wherein the petitioner has sought quashing of the sanction under Section 197(2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.

    Keeping in view the facts and circumstances of the case, we deem it appropriate to request the High Court to take up the said writ petition and decide the same expeditiously in accordance with law.

    The writ petition is disposed of in above terms".
