YS Vivekananda Reddy Murder : Supreme Court To Hear On June 19 Plea Seeking Cancellation Of YS Avinash Reddy’s Anticipatory Bail

The Supreme Court today heard a plea filed by Suneetha Nareddy, challenging the anticipatory bail granted to Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy, who was accused of murdering Nareddy's father, Vivekananda Reddy.A Vacation Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah heard the plea today. Nareddy herself appeared before the Bench as it made clear that senior advocates won't be allowed to argue before the Court during vacations. The Bench however allowed Senior Advocate Siddarth Luthra, appearing for the petitioner, to assist her. Failing to the see the aspect of urgency, the Bench said it will hear the plea after vacations..Nareedy said that the accused, who is also her second cousin, was not cooperating in the investigation. Luthra, at this juncture, reminded the Bench that the investigation had to be completed by June 30 as per the High Court’s direction. “You will put us in trouble for discriminating, Mr Luthra! You cannot argue, only assist her”, the Bench pointed out. On Luthra's suggestion, Nareddy urged the Court to issue notice to the Central agency and to list the matter tomorrow. “It will be better if your counsel argues the matter, because it is a bit technical also. Or you can have it next week, maybe that Bench may hear you. We are not permitting (senior advocates to argue the matter), but others are permitting...", the Bench said. Luthra said that the Advocate on Record will argue tomorrow. But the Court wasn't on the same page. The Court then listed the matter on June 19, while allowing the petitioners the file additional documents. Nareddy also sought permission for the AOR to appear online. “That is not required. We are hearing online also. It is permitted”, the Bench said, before concluding. YS Vivekananda Reddy, a member of the Indian National Congress and brother of the late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was found murdered at his residence in Pulivendula in Kadapa district, in 2019. The case was initially probed by a special investigation team (SIT) of the state crime investigation department, but was handed over in July 2020 to the Central Bureau of Investigation, which filed a charge sheet in October 2021 and a supplementary charge sheet in January 2022. In November last year, the apex court had directed the trial of Vivekananda Reddy’s murder to be transferred from Andhra Pradesh to a special CBI court in Hyderabad, noting that the apprehensions raised by his wife and daughter regarding derailment of a fair trial were reasonable.Case title: Dr. Suneetha Narreddy v.
