  • Vidhis Great Cases series: Invitation to a talk by Ms. Rebecca John on the Hashimpura Massacre case

The Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy cordially invites you to its eighth talk in the Great Cases series. The talk shall be delivered by Ms. Rebecca John, Senior Advocate, High Court of Delhi on the Hashimpura Massacre case (State of Uttar Pradesh v. Surender Pal Singh and Others).

Ms. John is a distinguished criminal lawyer and has been a defense counsel in several prominent criminal cases, such as the Arushi Talwar murder trial, the 2005 Delhi serial bomb blasts case, and the Ishrat Jahan fake-encounter case.

At the event, Ms. John will reflect on the judgment of the Tis Hazari Trial Court. The case and the judgment raised compelling questions about the criminal justice system. She would also discuss her experience of having represented the victims and survivors. The Trial Court in its judgment acquitted 16 Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel accused of the murder of 42 Muslims in Hashimpura in 1987 for lack of evidence.

The event is scheduled for Friday, February 26th, 2016 at 5:30 pm at Conference Room 1, India Islamic Cultural Centre, 87-88, Lodhi Road, New Delhi - 110003.
