Supreme Court REJECTS plea filed by a person against #TheBarBulletin, 'X', 'Meta', 'Google' and others, seeking takedown/deletion of audio-video recordings of judicial proceedings uploaded on digital platforms, including those pertaining to his appearance in a matter
Bench: CJI Surya Kant, J Joymalya Bagchi and J V Mohana
CJI: If you are so brave, that you can abuse in open court, why do you want to hide? You don't say they (news portals) have used AI or something...
Counsel for petitioner: I just appeared for bail of my father
CJI: Assuming that some channel puts this proceeding...they may be in contempt...but if they add words to what you or we say, that would require serious view. Other thing (commercial exploitation) is in our domain
J Bagchi: Take steps for takedown with social media intermediaries. If they are not complied with, come to us. You must exhaust legal remedies. Law gives remedies in respect of impermissible publications in public domain. You have a post in violation of court order, give them notice.
