The Delhi High Court has sought the Centre’s response on a Petition alleging that people with fake eye care diplomas, degrees and certificates were offering treatment across the country.

While issuing notice to the Centre, the Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar observed, “It cannot be denied that the issues raised in this writ petition are of public importance.”

The petition has been filed by an NGO, Indian Optometry Federation, alleging, according to the order, “that several fake diplomas, degree, certificates in eye care are being used by unscrupulous persons, severally endangering public health.”

The matter has now been listed on 24 October.
