ICA To Host India–Singapore ADR Symposium During Singapore Convention Week 2025

The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) announces its Symposium-cum-Roundtable on “Bridging Markets, Resolving Disputes via ADR in India Singapore Corridor”, to be organized on Wednesday, 27th August 2025, at the Ballroom 2, The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore, during the Singapore Convention Week,2025. The upcoming Singapore Conference holds significance, bringing together a panel of speakers from both jurisdictions. The keynote address will be delivered by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. Special addresses will be delivered by Mr. Justice A.K. Sikri, International Judge, Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) and Former Judge, Supreme Court of India; Justice Philip Jeyaretnam, President of the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) and Judge of the High Court of Singapore. Dr. Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India to Singapore has also been invited to address the attendees, along with other eminent thought leaders from the legal and policy domains. The discussions at the upcoming Symposium are expected to set the tone for future cooperation and alignment between the two jurisdictions, particularly in light of the evolving global arbitration landscape. The session is relevant given the strong trade, investment, and diaspora linkages between India and Singapore. Singapore is India's largest trade partner in ASEAN and ranks among the leading sources of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), External Commercial Borrowings, and Foreign Portfolio Investment. Cumulative FDI inflows from Singapore to India stood at USD 174.88 billion between April 2000 and March 2025, accounting for 24% of total FDI inflows into India during the same period. With Singapore being one of the most preferred seats of arbitration globally, and India pursuing its national mission to become a “Global Hub of Arbitration,” the Asian backyard is brimming with possibilities, from trade and investment to cross-border dispute resolution. Recent developments in arbitration between India and Singapore reflect this momentum. These include introduce provisions for third-party funding disclosure and enhanced procedural efficiency, and India's 2024 Draft Arbitration Bill, which seeks to expedite arbitral proceedings and reduce court intervention to boost investor confidence. Both jurisdictions have adopted a pro-arbitration stance across legislative, policy, and judicial fronts. These developments underscore the importance of a robust, harmonized, and reliable dispute resolution ecosystem to support cross-border commerce. In this context, the Conference will serve as a timely and strategic platform to explore how institutional arbitration can serve as a catalyst for strengthening legal certainty and investor confidence in the Asian region at large, and the India-Singapore Economic Corridor in particular. The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) is an arbitral institution of India, established in 1965 with the objective of promoting and facilitating the use of arbitration, conciliation, and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for the settlement of commercial disputes.
