A citizens group Sangrami Ganamancha has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking leave to urgently file a petition for holding a demonstration against Special Intensive Revision held in the State.

The counsel appearing for the group mentioned the matter before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya seeking leave to file the petition.

When the court asked about the urgency the counsel said, "Urgency is on 2nd (September) there is a demonstration regarding SIR. More than 5000 people are going to participate in that...By an organization called Sangrami Ganamanch. So urgent leave is required so..."

The court asked whether the group had previously deferred its demonstration. To which the counsel said, "That is another one. Nothing to do with SIR. This is a different organization. Kindly grant leave so that I can file".

While the court orally asked to why did the organization not file the plea earlier if the demonstration was fixed for September 2 and further asked why did it not file the plea five days ago, it however granted leave to the organization as sought.

"Leave granted. Monday," the court said.

SIR in Bengal took place in October last year as part of the second phase of the process which covers nine states and three union territories.
