First-Year Law Student Found Dead At NUJS Kolkata Campus

A first-year student of West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, was found unresponsive on campus and was subsequently declared dead, according to a statement issued by the student body.The deceased, identified as Juven Joss Jebin, was “found unresponsive behind the Boys' Hostel on the Main Campus” and was “subsequently pronounced deceased by the doctors,” the statement said.In their statement, the students' body said: “We… express our profound grief at the passing of Juven Joss Jebin, a first-year student.” They added that “his passing is a matter of deep sorrow for the entire university community,” noting that he “will be remembered fondly by his peers and teachers.”Extending condolences, the statement read: “We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones, and stand in solidarity with all those affected by this loss.”Amid the ongoing developments, the student body urged caution against the spread of unverified information. “At this time, we urge all members of the community to act with responsibility and sensitivity, and to refrain from sharing or engaging with unverified information in any form,” the statement emphasised.A similar appeal was directed at the media. “We request all media organisations to respect the privacy and dignity of the deceased, his family, the students, and the university community,” the statement said, adding: “Kindly refrain from publishing, circulating, or amplifying any speculative or unverified information regarding the ongoing investigation.”The University administration has declined to issue any official statement pending an ongoing police inquiry.
