Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress has moved Calcutta High Court challenging the allegedly illegal removal of a billboard from atop their party office in Kolkata's Camac Street.

It was alleged by civic authorities that the billboard was unauthorised and hence needed to be removed. Reportedly, the civic authortiies faced resistance when trying to enter the building and had to use the help of local police authorities, leading to a stand-off between party workers and police at the site.

The plea was slated to be moved urgently before a bench of Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury, who allowed its listing, but declined any immediate relief.

Senior Advocate Kishore Datta, appearing for the TMC informed the court that at 4:45pm on Thursday, the authorities attempted to force their way into the party office, and allegedly forcefully removed the billboard.

In noting that the board had already been removed, the court declined immediate relief, but allowed the petition to be listed for hearing.
