Delhi High Court Asks ECI To Consider Plea To Reduce 30-Day Notice Period For Registration Of Expelled Trinamool Leader's Party

The Delhi High Court has directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider a representation seeking reduction of the 30-day notice period prescribed for registration of a political party, in a plea filed by a party floated by expelled Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir.Justice Amit Bansal was hearing a writ petition filed by Aam Janata Unnayan Party, which sought relaxation of the statutory requirement of inviting public objections for 30 days and prayed that the period be curtailed to seven days in the facts of the case.Senior Advocate Sumeet Pushkarna, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that a representation in this regard had already been submitted to the ECI on March 13, 2026. It was argued that the petitioner intended to contest the upcoming elections in West Bengal, which had recently been announced, and therefore required expeditious consideration of its request.The Court was also informed that in Ram Adheen Das (General Secretary of Proposed Political Party Indian Inclusive Party) IIP v.
