The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has decided to contribute Rs. 25 lakh towards the construction of a night shelter to be built by AIIMS, New Delhi, for relatives and attendants of patients who have no accommodation while waiting for the treatment.

The decision was taken by the DHCBA Executive Committee after Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, during the hearing of a PIL, appealed to the Bar Association to assist in constructing the shelter.

“As such, the Executive Committee of DHCBA has decided to contribute a sum of Rs.25 Lakhs towards the construction of the night shelter to be built by AlIMS New Delhi,” a notice issued by the lawyers' body yesterday said.

The DHCBA has reiterated that the amount is collected completely from the voluntary donations given generously by the members of the Bar for social cause and no other fund of the bar is being utilized.

The Association has said that its members had earlier contributed towards relief efforts following floods in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh last year and the unspent funds from that exercise were retained for further social causes.

The contribution will be made through a cheque, which will be formally presented to the Director of AIIMS, at a function scheduled to be held in Bar Room No. 18 tomorrow at 5:30 PM.

“The Hon'ble the Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi has also consented to grace the occasion. Members of the Bar are requested to kindly be present on the occasion,” the notice said.
