The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to pass directions to the Central Government on a petition seeking “comprehensive rehabilitation package” for Pakistan migrants who have obtained citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said that rehabilitation package was purely a matter of policy of the Government.
The Bench asked the Central Government to decide the representation of the petitioner, Akhil Bhartiya Dharma Prasar Samiti.
It was the petitioner's case that the migrants were in need of “comprehensive resettlement measures” to ensure that they live in India with dignity.
It was submitted that some of the migrants were living in deplorable conditions and thus, there was an urgent need to provide them with the rehabilitation measures which include shelter, healthcare, education, water, electricity and sanitation.
“We consider it apposite to dispose of the petition by directing the respondents (Central Government) to consider the representation and take an informed decision,” the Bench directed.
