    Delhi High Court's Chief Justice, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, has co-opted two lawyers as women members of the Bar Council of Delhi.

    The two women lawyers are Senior Advocate Sonia Mathur and Advocate Monika Arora.

    The information has been provided in a letter issued by the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court.

    “I am directed to refer to your letter No. 183/Gen/SF/2026 dated 05.09.2026 on the above subject and to convey that Hon'ble the Chief Justice has been pleased to nominate Ms. Sonia Mathur, Senior Advocate…and Ms. Monika Arora, Advocate…as women members, Bar Council of Delhi…,” the letter reads.

    The action has been taken to complete the composition of Bar Council of Delhi in terms of an order passed by the Supreme Court on September 02.

    The Supreme Court had directed that the two women members to be co-opted to State Bar Councils shall be nominated by the HC Chief Justices from among former women High Court judges or senior women members with a fair standing at the Bar.

    Thereafter, another direction was made, asking the High Court Chief Justices to to complete the co-option of two women members to State Bar Councils within two weeks.
