Proceedings before Delhi High Court Chief Justice's Court were disturbed today as obscene pornographic content was played by a user midway on virtual conferencing (VC).
The incident occurred before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia.
As the Court was taking up its supplementary list, a random user logged in as “Shitjeet Sighn” on VC shared his screen and played pornographic content on VC.
The VC was immediately shut down by the Court staff.
However, as the VC was resumed shortly thereafter, the same user again shared the screen and displayed pornographic content.
The VC was again shut down by the staff and was not resumed for quite some time.
Later, the VC was turned on again and the participant, for the third time, shared its screen and played obscene content.
“This is a hack from the United States. Shut the meeting right now. Never turn it on again. You have been hacked,” the voice in the background said.
At present, the VC has been resumed but participants were locked immediately. The Court's video and audio is also turned off at the moment.
The Delhi High Court administration has now filed a formal complaint with Delhi Police's IFSO unit over a possible security breach or unauthorized interference during VC proceedings. Preliminary inquiry will now be initiated.
In the post lunch session, ASG Chetan Sharma mentioned the matter before the CJ Court and said that there has been “disconcerting incidents” in the pre lunch session in “some courts, not just one court.” He said that the incident has the effect of damaging the integrity of the sanctity and overall integrity of the institution.
ASG Sharma requested Court that an order be passed directing the appropriate government for immediate takedown and to stop dissemination of the content.
On this, CJ remarked: “Administratively I have already instructed the RG and made a request. Under our Rules, this (content) can be displayed only when it is recorded, which is prohibited…… If someone has recorded then only it can be displayed. That is against the Rules. And as per norms, if anything is recorded under the Rules, the authorities will act.”
