    The Delhi High Court yesterday imposed Rs. 20,000 as costs after a Central Government standing counsel sought repeated adjournments in an IPR case.

    Justice Saurabh Banerjee renotified the matter and granted adjournment, subject to payment of costs to be paid to the Army Central Welfare Fund by the Central Government within four weeks.

    The Court was dealing with a commercial appeal filed in the High Court's Intellectual Property Division (IPD).

    The petition was filed by one Neeraj Gupta against the Controller of Patents and Designs which was represented by the Central Government Standing Counsel.

    The Central Government counsel informed Court that though written submissions were filed in the matter, but an adjournment was sought on the ground that he had not received any specific instructions from the respondent authority as yet.

    “Since, learned counsel for the respondent has sought adjournment on the last three dates as well, in the interest of justice, renotify on 06.08.2025, albeit, subject to costs of Rs.20,000/- to be paid by the respondent to the Army Central Welfare

    Fund within a period of four weeks,” the Court said.

    The matter will now be heard on August 06.
