Delhi High Court Directs Special Committee To Decide Lawyers' Plea To Include Their Names In Electoral Roll For BCD Polls

The Delhi High Court has directed the Special Committee of the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) to decide a representation filed by three lawyers seeking addition of their names in the electoral roll for the ensuing elections.Justice Amit Bansal directed the lawyers to file a representation before the Special Committee by January 08, which shall be considered and decided on or before January 12.This was after the judge noted that the publication of the final electoral roll to the ensuing BCD polls is to be done on or before January 17. The three lawyers are Umesh Kumar, Taiyyab Khan Salmani and Shantanu Sagar. It was their case that they have obtained their LLB degrees, they were provisionally enrolled as Advocates on the state roll in August 2025 and had also appeared in All India Bar Examination-XX (AIBE), the results of which are yet to be declared.Their lawyer, Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa, argued that the lawyers had submitted their respective Online Verification Forms with the Bar Council of Delhi.However, their grievance was that their names had not been included in the electoral roll for the election of the Bar Council of Delhi as the results of All India Bar Examination (AIBE) had not been declared.Advocate Preet Pal Singh appearing on behalf of the Bar Council of India submitted that AIBE results are likely to be declared today.Disposing of the plea, Justice Bansal noted that to conduct the elections to the Bar Council of Delhi, a Special Committee has been constituted which must be approached in case of any grievance is there by an individual with regard to elections or any other issues.
