Justice Suresh Kumar Kait Bids Farewell To Delhi High Court, Pays Homage To Dr. BR Ambedkar

Justice Suresh Kumar Kait bid farewell to the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, following his appointment as the Chief Justices of Madhya Pradesh High Court. His appointment was notified by the Union Government on September 21. Justice Kait was elevated as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on September 05, 2008, and was made a permanent judge on April 12, 2013. He was transferred to Telangana High Court and Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2016. He was later transferred to the Delhi High Court in 2018. In his farewell speech, Justice Kait recalled his childhood days and said that coming from a humble background and being born and brought up in a village, it was not easy for him to enter the legal profession and make a space for himself. “Na vakeel banna tha, na judge banne ka shauk tha par kismat ne kaha tu padhai kar, faisla hum sunaenge,” the judge said. Justice Kait remembered his late father without whose efforts it was not possible for him to reach this height in his career. He said that his father used to say, if you get a job even in some government department, your life would be better than other villages. “I remember once my father was cutting grass with hand driven weeding machine, single handedly, and I was doing my homework. I stopped, then I left my homework and got up to help him out, but outrightly, he said, never leave your studies for any other work,” he said. Justice Kait also remembered his late mother and said that her silent sacrifices and dedication ensured that him and other siblings had the best opportunity from their limited resources. He also remembered his late eldest brother who got selected in IRS through UPSC in 1974 and later as an IPS officer. The judge also remembered his other two brothers and sisters and highlighted their achievements in life, despite hardships and limited resources. He also thanked his wife, twin sons, daughter in law and other family members for their support in his career. “I never had any dispute with anyone in all these years and even if I said something during court proceedings, it was only with the intent to maintain the decorum of the court for dispensation of justice and nothing was personal,” he said. Justice Kait also said that he, despite being from a rural background, was able to achieve this height in the legal profession only because of the Constitution of India. “For this I pay my homage to the Constitution of India, Dr. BR Ambedkar. I thank you all for your support and it was a pleasure serving with you. Jai Hindi. Thank you,” he said while concluding his speech.
