S.354 IPC: Delhi High Court Quashes FIR Against Man, Asks Him To Assist Traffic Police For A Month

Quashing an FIR against a man for outraging modesty of a woman, the Delhi High Court has asked him to assist the Traffic Police at a traffic signal for 30 days.Justice Navin Chawla quashed the FIR registered for the offences under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intending to insult modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. This was after the court was informed that the parties had amicably settled their disputes and entered into a settlement agreement. The complainant was personally present in the Court through VC and reaffirmed the settlement. She stated that she had settled all the disputes with the man out of her own free will and without any coercion.“Accordingly, the petition is allowed. FIR…under Sections 354/506/509 of the IPC and all consequential proceedings emanating therefrom against the petitioner are quashed, subject to the condition that the petitioner shall assist the Traffic Police at a traffic signal where he may be deputed by the DCP Traffic, East District, for a period of 30 days,” the court said. It added that the man shall report to the DCP Traffic for rendering the assistance at a traffic signal assigned to him. “At the end of the aforesaid period of 30 days, the DCP Traffic shall issue a certificate to the petitioner, which the petitioner shall thereafter file before this Court within a period of two months from today,” the court said.
