The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Police to provide protection to the mother of a man accused of killing 27-year old Tarun Butolia, in a violent clash during Holi celebrations at Uttam Nagar this year.
Justice Girish Kathpalia said that whatever be the legal proceedings against the son which will take its own course as per law, the mother cannot be left vulnerable and prone to such violence.
“It is indeed a serious situation,” the Court said, while allowing the plea moved by the mother seeking directions upon the local police to provide immediate and adequate police protection to her and her family.
It was submitted by her counsel that during past two days, some of the local residents including the family members of the deceased had been attacking her house violently, including by throwing stones and bricks. Her counsel also showed the CCTV footage to support her version to the Court.
The Delhi Police assured the Court that sufficient deployment of local police shall be carried out immediately in order to ensure that no untoward incident takes place again in the area in question.
“As depicted in the CCTV footage, house of petitioner is in a narrow lane, so it is not difficult to protect the same by deploying police officials in the lane itself. At least till the situation becomes normal, the local police of PS Uttam Nagar shall ensure continuous round the clock deployment of sufficient police personnel in that area, especially in the lane where house of the petitioner exists,” the Court said.
It directed that a status report be filed by the police within one week along with reliable documentary record to show sufficient deployment of police in the area and other steps taken to prevent any further violence.
The matter will now be heard on October 16.
On March 04, Tarun was killed in a clash that broke out between his family and neighbours in the JJ Colony.
According to the Delhi Police, the violence started after water from a balloon thrown by a girl from Tarun's family splashed on a woman from the neighbour's family during Holi celebrations.
