The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked BJP's national spokesperson Sanju Verma to consider deleting her post made on X, formerly Twitter, calling former IPS officer Yashovardhan Azad a “blot on the uniform.”

Justice Amit Bansal issued summons in the defamation suit filed by Azad.

The Court also issued notice on Azad's application seeking interim injunction against the allegedly defamatory posts.

Senior Advocate Vikas Singh appeared for Azad. Advocate Raghav Awasthi represented Verma.

Awasthi said that the suit was not maintainable and that the comment was made as a result of personal comments made by Azad against Verma in a TV debate.

On this, the Court said: “Lets not escalate this. This part you should remove. You can't say that he is a blot on the uniform.”

“Advise your client to remove that part. Are you willing to talk to your client? Take instructions. I understand when you get into tv debate, that is fine. No problem in tv debate or expressing your views but to raise aspersion on someone while he was an officer is wrong,” the judge told Awasthi.

The judge further added: “You should advise your client. These cases shouldn't come to court. Public debate is ok but he has come as an expert (on tv debate). You attack him on his views but this person says he is a blot.”

The matter will now be heard on January 27, 2026.
