Three New Judges Take Oath At Delhi High Court, Strength Rises To 44

Justice Dinesh Mehta, Justice Avneesh Jhingan and Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha took oath as judges of the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.The oath of office was administered to the new judges by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. After this development, the strength of judges at the Delhi High Court has risen to 44. The sanctioned strengthen of judges is 60.Justice Mehta and Justice Jhingan were earlier serving as judges of the Rajasthan High Court. Justice Sudha was serving at the Kerala High Court. Their transfer was notified by the Central Government on October 14. This was after the Supreme Court collegium had in August recommended the transfer of 14 judges across various High Courts.Justice Mehta was elevated to the Bench on November 16, 2016. His area of practice during litigation related to Taxation, Arbitration, Banking Laws, Company Laws, Electricity Laws, Environment Laws, Insurance Laws, Agrarian Laws, Municipal Laws. He also handled cases involving Constitutional, Contractual, Mining, Election, Civil, Service and Industrial disputes. Justice Jhingan completed his graduation in Law from Panjab University in 1992 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council for the States of Punjab and Haryana. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in July 2017. He was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on December 03, 2018. Later, Justice Jhingan sworn in as judges of Rajasthan High Court on November 01, 2023. Justice Sudha had sworn in as Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on October 20, 2021. She had also served as Special PoCSO judge at Palakkad and was thereafter appointed as Additional Director at Kerala Judicial Academy. Later, she was also appointed as the District & Sessions Judge, Ernakulam.
