The Delhi High Court has issued notice on a plea challenging the re-conduct of University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) examination, 2026 for English.

Justice Jasmeet Singh sought response of the Union Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), while also directing the authorities to take a decision on the refund of fee.

“The respondents are also directed to take a decision regarding refund of the examination fee of the concerned examination,” the Court said.

Moved by various candidates, the plea seeks quashing of the Public Notice published by NTA on August 16 whereby re-conduct of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for English has been directed.

The plea also seeks a declaration that the decision to re-conduct the examination, without disclosing the material forming its basis and without following the procedure prescribed under the Information Bulletin, is arbitrary, unreasonable, procedurally unfair and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution of India.

The candidates have also sought that a direction on the authorities to declare or process the results of the examination already conducted in English in accordance with the applicable procedure, after undertaking the prescribed answer-key challenge and expert-review process, including correction or revision of the answer key, deletion of defective questions and consequential re-evaluation, wherever warranted.

A direction is also sought that if the Court affirms the re-conduct of examination, the examination fee already paid by the petitioners must be refunded to them, without prejudice to their right to appear in the re-conducted examination without payment of any additional examination fee.

The Court issued notice to the respondents and listed the matter for hearing on October 06.
