The Gujarat High Court has extended the pilot implementation exercise of the hybrid mode of hearing of cases (presently going on for cause lists of Thursdays) to all Court working days beginning 7th August 2023 onwards.

Till now, the facility, presently going on for the benches presided over by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Biren A. Vaishnav, was only available on Thursdays. A circular in this regard was issued on Saturday as per the approval and directions of the Chief Justice.

It may be noted that this system of hybrid hearings was introduced by the HC in June this year to facilitate the arguing Counsels or Senior Counsels to appear through video conferencing.

As per the SOP of the system, the Advocates who are registered with the High Court Registry and represent either party in the listed matters can inform the Registry through the online module for submission of the hybrid hearing option in the case status section of the High Court website about their option to appear through Video Conferencing along with the name of any other Advocate/Senior Advocate engaged by them.

Issued on June 13, HC's circular in this regard states that the advocate should not forward the link to any other individual, as only the advocate and the concerned advocate/senior advocate whose details are submitted along with the online hybrid hearing option would be allowed to join the video conference hearing.

The circular also mentions that Gujarat High Court (Live Streaming of Court Proceedings) Rules, 2021 will also apply to the hybrid hearing with necessary modifications to accommodate the new system. It further mentions that following a successful pilot implementation of hybrid hearing, the facility would be gradually extended for other benches of the high court.
